What Are HVAC Commercial Split Systems?
As you might have guessed, split systems are so named because they're split into two separate units. The outdoor unit is composed of a compressor, fan and condenser coil. The indoor unit, or air handler, features an evaporator coil and a powerful blower motor to circulate the air. An indoor furnace may also be included with systems that don't incorporate a heat pump.
This basic configuration, known as a single-split system, is typically best for smaller spaces and individual rooms. Since each indoor air handler requires a corresponding outdoor unit, however, installing more than one system isn't always practical. Instead, multi-split systems allow you to pair several indoor units with a single outdoor condenser. This makes them ideal for large offices, apartment complexes and multi-tenant retail spaces.
Is a Split HVAC System Right for Your Business?
There are many considerations that go into choosing an HVAC system for your commercial building. If price is a primary concern, single-split systems are among the most economical solutions. They're particularly well-suited for small shops, offices, apartments, server rooms and other compact spaces. Multi-split systems are more costly, but they provide outstanding flexibility for meeting even the most complex challenges.
In either case, split systems offer the ability to expand and adapt in response to your changing needs. They're also very reliable and efficient, particularly when built with high-quality equipment. In addition, each unit can be set up with separate controls to provide complete customization.
